I just bought my first NFT

WOW. That was stressful.

I wanted to share my experience of buying my first NFT, https://billionaires.io/. Half of this is for posterity sake so I can learn how to do my own drops, and this could also be helpful to many of you who are reading to understand what it looks like. Keep reading to find out more…

So the reason I wanted a billionaire was because:

  • I really liked the art

  • The twitter had 15k followers, discord 40K - that means there are people interested

  • I think that this will create a nice community after the fact, and that means a lot to me. I look at the Bored Apes and I wish I was in that club.

I had scheduled time in my calendar to buy, and had tried everything I could to get into the presale. I wasn’t able to get in, so I sat there, stressed, trying to get one at the drop. I stared at the counter and then it finally dropped - but the link didn’t change!! I hit refresh a dozen times and had a strategy - I would buy on one auction if I had to. I kept checking discord and the team was nice enough to mention the link will drop soon. Some thing I liked about what they did:

  • they made the discord exciting the whole time I was in it, it felt like a good vibe.

  • During the launch they hyped it even more, doing giveaways (creating scarcity), contests for presales and much more. It was great

  • When the launch happened they managed the spam, and kept everyone in the loop of the delay.

Then I had to ape in, and ape I did.

Only problem was that gas fees were $40,000 and well, gas sucks. But after a few minutes, gas dropped back down to a regularish price and I went to buy, but the transaction failed and apparently I lost $500 (its an error, need to talk to Metamask). Lesson: have double the amount you need in your wallet, which I did. So I aped again, I figured if this was going to the moon, it was worth double the price of the mint.

I minted the NFT, and then I couldn’t find the NFT in my opensea, so I (now drained of dopamine) tried to figure out what the hell I just did. After a few minutes, it showed up in my collection and I am stoked.

Happy Aping.
